Frequently Asked Questions
Is KAT the same as KAP?
Is KAT the same as KAP?
They are closely related, with a useful distinction. Both pair ketamine with therapeutic support to treat conditions like depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
KAT (Ketamine-Assisted Therapy) is the broader term, often used when a medical provider is involved, with the practitioner sometimes playing a more observational role — holding a safe, comfortable space while the medicine does much of the biological work. KAP (Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy) is the psychotherapy-forward model, typically delivered by therapists, who often integrate psychotherapy after sessions as a key part of the integration process.
For the purposes of this training, the sessions themselves look the same whether you're a medical provider (KAT) or a therapist (KAP). The core work — preparation, holding space during the experience, and integration — is shared. The primary distinction lies in the practitioner's professional background and the psychotherapeutic depth they bring afterward, not in the heart of the session itself.
How can a therapist offer KAP in their office?
Therapists collaborate with a medical provider who conducts medical clearance and prescribes ketamine. Once cleared, the medication is brought to the therapist's office for the KAP session. This partnership enables therapists to integrate KAP into their practice, ensuring medical oversight is handled by a qualified prescriber.
Can I offer KAT/KAP after this training?
Yes. Upon successful completion of this training, you will receive a certificate of completion in Ketamine-Assisted Therapy. This equips you with the necessary knowledge and tools to confidently offer KAT/KAP services within your own practice.
Do I need to be a prescriber to take this training?
No. This comprehensive training is designed for licensed clinicians across various disciplines, including therapists, counselors, social workers, and prescribing providers. Non-prescribing clinicians will learn to facilitate ketamine sessions through a collaborative model, while prescribers gain skills to integrate ketamine therapy and partner effectively with therapists.
How do I find a provider to partner with for prescribing?
Establishing strong provider-therapist partnerships is crucial, and this training directly addresses it. We cover strategies for building these relationships, structuring collaboration, and coordinating patient care. You'll understand the partnership model thoroughly, and our graduate community often serves as a valuable resource for finding collaborators.
What's included in the training?
This is a fully experiential, in-person training covering a complete clinical curriculum: neurophysiology, indications/contraindications, set and setting, ethics, ceremony, and integration. You'll receive a ready-to-use clinical toolkit with consent forms and intake documents, participate in supervised experiential ketamine sessions, practice holding space, and earn a KAT certificate of completion .
